Workstyle
At Mercari, our workstyle offers our diverse employees flexibility so that each individual and team can best optimize their performance and demonstrate our four values of Go Bold, All for One, Be a Pro, and Move Fast.
We view our workstyle as something that is constantly evolving to best fit our needs, just like our businesses and organizations. After much exploration, we have arrived at a new answer that draws out the maximum potential in both our members and the organization: a hybrid workstyle that combines the best of the casual encounters and enthusiasm that can only be felt in the office and the efficiency and flexibility offered by remote work.
Where we work
Our basic policy is for employees to work from the office at least two days a week, but we have systems and mechanisms in place to ensure productivity wherever we work. We use tools like Slack and Google Workspace to enable our employees to work efficiently both in person and remotely. Our office is designed to encourage communication and collaboration when in the office.
When we work
Mercari offers a full flextime system, enabling employees to flexibly choose the hours that work best for them.
*However, there are exceptions for certain positions and types of work.
The Systems and Policies
That Support Mercari’s Hybrid Workstyle
Initiatives to accelerate communication
Mercari carries out many initiatives to encourage active communication between employees and boost enthusiasm within the organization.
We hold events on a regular basis, including all-hands meetings providing opportunities to hear information from and speak directly with leadership, lunch & learn and open-door sessions where members can share project updates and knowledge to facilitate learning, and offsites, where teams step away from their work to discuss long-term vision and build trust.
We also encourage employees to take part in team building and club activities to get to know people from all divisions and layers of the organization.
An office that cultivates our culture
Our Tokyo office, Mercari Base Tokyo, is a place that maximizes opportunities for offline communication to cultivate our culture and create new value. It offers plenty of ways to encourage communication—areas for teams to get together and hold ideation sessions, cafes to relax with pour-over coffee in hand, drink corners with tables to hold casual chats, lounge spaces with comfortable couches, and more.
Of course, there are also a variety of work spaces to choose from according to your needs, like booths and pods for online meetings and focus zones to concentrate on your work. Whatever you’re up to today, we’ve got you covered.

On office days, how many hours do I need to work in the office?
We set 10 AM to 4 PM as the recommended hours for holding company-wide events.
