Product Management at Mercari
At Mercari, we take challenges every day in order to fulfill our mission to “Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people.” To achieve this mission, we need our marketplace app to grow further. The product manager is in charge of fulfilling this highly important role, as he/she is the person who defines what kind of value the product should have, and ensures that the expected value is delivered to the users. This involves discovering and addressing users’ potential needs as well as emerging issues. In order to handle such a comprehensive role, you will need skills in finding issues with engineering and the customer experience, along with analyzing and creating UI/UX solutions. You will also need people management skills as you will be expected to communicate with a variety of people like engineers, marketers, new business owners, and data analysts to handle projects. Because Mercari is a CtoC marketplace used by both buyers and sellers, it is important to understand the wide range of perspectives involved. Mercari’s Product Management Team does not settle for existing methods or familiar technology. This is a team that makes bold moves to contribute to the product’s growth.
Creating world-class services, organizations, and mechanisms
The Mercari app has grown into a service used by more than 20.00 million people every month, but still has enormous potential. There are over 36 million people in Japan who know of Mercari and are interested in listing items. Product Managers are the ones in charge of planning the next steps for this large-scale, high-potential service. The planning and execution involved in this position will be challenging, but will allow you to leave a major impact on the world.
Taking ownership, making decisions, and taking action in an evolving organization
Mercari’s ideal Product Management Team is a coordinated and flexible organization where each individual can take ownership of their work and make their own decisions. In this constantly-evolving industry, it does not take long for new technology to become obsolete. This is why speed is an important factor in Mercari’s development, and this is why product managers and engineers have teamed up and introduced Agile development to establish independent teams. Running experiments and failing repeatedly is needed not only to find correct solutions, but also to help members grow as individuals.
Diversity & Inclusion
Working to achieve our mission in a strong team leveraging each individual’s skills and diversity
Mercari aims to “Circulate all forms of value to unleash the potential in all people”, and we place a strong emphasis on diversity in our organization and team members. We aim to have a diverse group of members work together to develop a world-class product. Having members with different skills, languages, cultures, and values provides us with a unique environment to discuss issues from various points of view.
Mercari has people with diverse experiences and backgrounds working together to achieve our mission.
